Loop

Privacy Policy

Last updated

The short version

  • Activity pages are public. Anyone can see them, including the meeting point and who's going.
  • Your email and password stay private.
  • Loop doesn't sell your information and doesn't run ads.
  • Loop uses simple, cookieless analytics and has no advertising cookies.
  • You can contact us about your information at info@findaloop.xyz.

Who runs Loop

Loop is run by Loop Collective, LLC, an Idaho limited liability company. In this policy, "Loop," "we" and "us" mean Loop Collective, LLC. You can reach us at info@findaloop.xyz.

Loop is for people 18 and older, and for activities in the lower 48 states.

What Loop collects

When you create an account

  • Your email address and password. The password is stored in scrambled form, never as plain text.
  • Your first and last name.
  • A display name, bio and photo, if you add them.
  • A home base (city) and up to four favorite locations, if you add them. Loop never asks or stores a residence location.

When you join as a guest

  • Your full name and email address.
  • Loop uses your email to send a confirmation link. The link works for 24 hours. Loop may also email you if the activity changes or is cancelled.

If you join an activity as a guest, we use your email only to send you the confirmation and any change or cancellation notices for that activity. We delete it the day after the activity starts, or shortly after. The name you enter stays on the activity's attendee list.

When you host an activity

  • The title, description, date, time and details you enter.
  • The meeting point you pick on the map.

When you use Loop

  • Technical details such as your IP address and browser type. Loop's hosting providers keep these in their logs to run the site and keep it secure.
  • Loop uses Vercel Web Analytics to see how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and what country and device type visitors use. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other websites, and the counts aren't tied to your account.
  • Rate limits protect sign-in, password changes and the guest form. To apply them we store scrambled versions of IP addresses and emails, not the raw values, for at most a day.
  • Loop picks a starting city for you from your approximate location. If you tap "Use Your Location," your browser shares your position. Loop saves the center of the nearest town, not your exact spot.

When you contact us

Contact form. When you send us a message through the Contact form, your name, email address, the subject you pick and your message are emailed to us through our email provider, Resend. We don't store them in Loop's database. The copy in our inbox stays until we delete it, and you can ask us to delete it by emailing info@findaloop.xyz. Resend keeps its own delivery logs for up to 30 days.

To limit spam, the form has a hidden field that only bots fill in, and a limit of five messages per hour. To apply that limit we store a code made from your IP address with a secret key, along with a timestamp, for about a day. We don't store your IP address itself, and we use the code for nothing else.

What's public and what's private

Public

  • Activity pages are public, whether or not you're signed in. They show the title, details, date, meeting point and the host's display name and photo.
  • Each activity page lists who's going. Members appear with their display name and photo. Guests appear with the full name they entered.
  • Your display name, bio and photo are public. Photos are stored in a public folder, so anyone with the link can open one.
  • If you leave the display name blank, Loop uses your first and last name as your public name.
  • Cancelled activities stay visible until 7 days after their start date.
  • When someone shares an activity link, the preview shows the title, date, type and photo. It doesn't show the exact location, the host or who's going.

Choose a meeting point you're comfortable making public. Don't put private details in an activity description.

Private

  • Your email address and password.
  • Your first and last name, unless you use them as your display name.
  • Your home base city, if you add one. It's optional, it's stored privately, and only you can see it.
  • Your favorite locations.
  • Hosts can see the names of people who join their activity. They can't see guests' email addresses.

How Loop uses your information

  • To run Loop: accounts, activities, joining and leaving.
  • To send emails about your account and your activities.
  • To show a weather forecast for upcoming activities.
  • To keep Loop safe and stop spam and abuse.
  • To answer your messages.

Loop doesn't sell or rent your personal information.

Emails

Loop sends emails about your account and activities: guest confirmations, a note to hosts when someone joins, changes and cancellations, password resets and replies to your messages. Loop doesn't send marketing emails right now. Emails are sent through Resend.

Who else handles your information

These services help run Loop:

  • Supabase stores the database, handles sign-in and stores photos.
  • Vercel hosts the site and provides its Web Analytics.
  • Resend sends emails. It sees the recipient's address and the message.
  • Proton hosts our email inbox, where messages you send us are kept.
  • MapTiler provides the maps and place search. Your browser talks to MapTiler directly, so it sees your IP address, the places you search for and the position you pick on a map.
  • The US National Weather Service (weather.gov) provides forecasts. Loop's servers send it the meeting point's coordinates for an upcoming activity. Nothing about you is sent.

Links to Google Maps, Apple Maps, Bing, Waze, Facebook and X take you to those sites. Their privacy policies apply there.

Loop may share information if the law requires it.

Cookies and similar storage

Loop uses a few cookies:

  • Sign-in. Keeps you signed in.
  • Location. Remembers the city you pick in the header, for 1 year.
  • Guest. Remembers that you joined an activity as a guest, so you can leave it, for 180 days.

While you create an activity, your draft is saved in your browser tab. It clears when you close the tab.

Loop's analytics don't use cookies, and Loop doesn't use advertising cookies.

How long Loop keeps information

  • Accounts: until you delete your account. See Deleting your account.
  • Guest sign-ups: if you don't confirm, the entry expires after 24 hours and is removed. If you do, your email is deleted the day after the activity starts, or shortly after. Your name stays on the attendee list for as long as the activity is on Loop.
  • Cancelled activities: removed, along with their attendee lists, 7 days after their start date.
  • Other activities: kept on Loop, along with their attendee lists, with no set end date, including after they've taken place. If the host deletes their account, see Deleting your account.
  • Emails already sent can't be taken back.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from your Profile page by choosing Delete Account. Deletion happens immediately and can't be undone. We send a confirmation email to the address on the account.

What we delete. Your sign-in details, your profile (name, location, bio, home base and profile photo), your RSVPs to other people's activities, and any guest sign-ups for upcoming activities made with your email address. Past guest sign-ups keep only the name, so they can't be matched to you and stay on the attendee list.

Activities you host. Upcoming activities are cancelled, and the people who joined are emailed. Cancelled activities are removed automatically a few days after their start date. Past activities stay on Loop, but they are no longer linked to you, and the host appears as "Former member." Anything you typed into an activity's title, description or meeting notes stays with it, so please don't put personal details there.

What may remain for a short time.

  • Email delivery logs kept by our email provider, Resend, for up to 30 days.
  • Messages you sent through the Contact form, which sit in our inbox. Email info@findaloop.xyz and we'll delete them.

Other people may also have copies of things you shared, such as an activity link or an email we sent to them.

Your choices

These choices apply wherever you live.

  • See and correct your profile at any time on your Profile page: your name, display name, bio, photo, home base and favorite locations.
  • Delete your account on your Profile page. See Deleting your account for what's removed.
  • For anything else, such as seeing, correcting or deleting other information we hold about you, email info@findaloop.xyz and we'll handle it. We aim to reply within two business days.

One limit: past guest sign-ups keep only a name, so we can't match them to you (see How long Loop keeps information).

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information. Passwords are stored in scrambled form. No website can promise perfect security.

Age

Loop is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, email info@findaloop.xyz and we'll delete it.

Where your information is stored

Loop's information is stored in the United States.
